Great interview, DD!

I like your idea for a trio of books about America. Looking forward to whatever unfolds from your process.

I also liked your update to the question on weaknesses. In reading your work consistently I've noticed you do offer the bare minimum for transitions at times. But, I think that's a strength of yours and makes your voice distinctive. I read everything you write twice because you make me work for it. I've yet to find a logical breakdown, only a demand for the reader to pay attention. I'm a consistent over-explainer, so I've definitely taken notes and pared back my own work.

Re: setting -- I'm not a good judge because I suck at setting and don't really care for it as a reader. Hyper descriptive writing about settings causes me to tune out. Dialogue and action make a great fiction story IMHO, which I think you nailed in Post-Atomic Stress.

Recent Activity is one of my favorites. Next time you want to do something like that send it to me for review. I'm good at math.

High hopes on the trilogy front! I think the second idea might lead to an apology tour. The third definitely will.

Glad that brevity is working in my favor. Otherwise I’d have to start nervously eyeing my portfolio of commercial jingles. I appreciate the feedback.

Scoring a math friend makes the entire Substack experiment worthwhile. You may get one or twelve tax questions next week.

"I have trouble imagining Mitch McConnell thumbing through my work and thinking 'What have I done?'”

Thanks to you, I had less trouble. And a hernia from laughing.

I’d die laughing if I got a letter saying “We were about to privatize air. Then your satire changed everything.”

It occurred to me that you had to say "privatize air" to be satirical; if you said "privatize water" you'd have to swap out "about to" for "continuing to." Such must be the struggle to caricature the present.

I’ll try to make the lag worthwhile. Protect the flock well, I need them to eat.
