Remember: unless a 24-hour newsdesk pays your bills, you have time to chew on things. Timely’s great, when you have the juice. When you don’t, go out for some juice. Your dignity will thank you.

Some gifts are odd fits. I see why kids like to pick their own.

For example, it took me a while to get the iWatch. Including it having a different name.

At first, I focused on fitness. After sprinting myself into a heaving, sweating mess, I’d look down to see if I was tired. I took a while to notice the issue.

Next, I used it to stay social. I didn’t want to stay social, but my wrist buzzed every time a childhood neighbor sneezed. I have more group chats than outbound texts, which feels off.

Technically, it worked as a literal watch. A position filled by every other screen in my life. Other features ran headfirst into the same redundancy, save quick-draw Shazam. I suspected I’d bought into bad Fallout cosplay, until I tripped into a use case.

Now, I finally get it. An iWatch shows observers you have an iWatch. Mostly dates.

Nothing’s fallen off my body in a while. I don’t trust that. Clearly a trap.
